Time runs measurably slower near a black hole.
General relativity predicts gravitational time dilation: clocks deep in a gravitational well tick more slowly relative to distant clocks. Near a black hole's event horizon the effect becomes extreme.
To a distant observer, an infalling clock appears to slow and its light shifts steadily redder, asymptotically freezing at the horizon. The infalling observer notices nothing unusual locally.
The same effect, in much smaller measure, is real and routine on Earth: GPS satellites must correct for it to keep positioning accurate to metres.
